Those "obsessed" with privacy (hey, obsession is in the eye of the beholder; one person's reasonable caution is another's obsession) know that if a digital service is "free," the service isn't the product to you; you are the service to the product's developer.  Google Maps is a free product, so it seems; actually, though, you are the product: when you use Google Maps, Google gathers data on you that is uses to sell other products to its customers.  If you don't care about privacy, it's a great deal: you give up privacy you don't want for a free map program.

But if you do care about privacy, what should you do?  Find less intrusive programs.  Some are free but some cost money, but that's what you have to do if you want to protect yourself. 

Anyway, if you're looking for alternatives to the non-private Google products, here's a list.  Think about it. . . .
