Using Patient Information for Fundraising: It appears the University of Iowa is using patient information to target fundraising efforts. Without digging too deeply, it actually looks like they have a good program that dots all the i's and crosses all the t's from a HIPAA standpoint.

Of course, some people are unhappy, such as Drs. Carome and Wolfe of Public Citizen (hmm, where does Public Citizen get its funding from? Would it's fundraising efforts pass Dr. Carome's "ethics" test or Dr. Wolfe's "appalling/manipulative" test?), but it sounds like plain old fundraising to me.
