A New Study: According to a study by Kroll Fraud Solutions, health care industry participants pay so much attention to medical record privacy and compliance that they miss the boat when it comes to patient identity theft. Now, Kroll is in that business, so it's understandable that that's what they'd see; but I tend to agree. We do look at privacy and security in the context of the need to protect the confidentiality of medical records, and might miss the fact that the gold mine to the outside world isn't in the heart of the medical record, it's in the boxes at the top: name, address, date of birth, social security number.
