California Physician Clinic offers Free PHR to Patients: Bright Health Physicians, apparently in connection with installing an electronic medical record system, will offer an on-line internet-accessable personal health record for its patients. This seems like a good model to push out PHRs to patients -- start with the primary care doctors who will have most if not all of the records for most of the patients, and the structure of the PHR can match the current state of the records. If the PHR comes from a third party or has records from all sorts of providers, it might be hard to convert the format of the information. Also, make it voluntary for the patients, so those that want to play can and those that are afraid of the technology or the privacy/security issues can opt out.
