Physician email availability increases perioperative patient communication: According to the study outlined here, here and here, if a surgeon gives out his email address after the first consult, the patient is much more likely to communicate with questions and concerns regarding the procedure and its aftermath. But if you add in email, make sure you have protections, and make sure the patient knows the risks and assumes them.
