California Data Breach Notification Law to be Updated? It appears that the California state legislature is going to tweak the data breach notification law. That law, which requires companies doing business in California to notify customers whose personal data might have been exposed due to a computer security breach, was copied in many other states as a model to ensure that companies at least let their customers know there is a problem. The proposed revision requires the company to make sure the notification explains what happened, and tells customers what they can do to protect themselves. Apparently, some companies were complying with the law but using notices that weren't particularly helpful.
