Privacy and Security: a couple of articles I saw today talk about medical record privacy and security, and how those concerns drive development and implementation of technology. First, this UPI article talks about how some scientists have developed a computer architecture that will allow the transmission and electronic access to medical information in disaster situations, all in a safe and secure manner. This article from Healthcare IT News discusses how health information exchanges have been stymied by concerns about the security and privacy of information that might pass over the exchange. Those same concerns have hampered the adoption of electronic health records and electronic medical records. It's good to keep those concerns in mind, and also nice to see (as noted in the first article) that folks do try to work around them.
