National Health Information Network: Mike Leavitt was in North Carolina last week talking to doctors about how the proposed national health information network will empower patients. The story raises an interesting point: when HIPAAcrats like me talk about the national health information network and infrastructure, we're really talking about the inclusion of the personal health information of millions of individuals in a nationally-accessable on-line database, but there's another piece of the infrastructure, that which allows individuals to seek information about quality and cost of care their providers deliver.
