HIPAA violation? An EMS tech uses pictures of car wrecks to impress on high school drivers' ed classes the need to drive responsibly. Allegedly, one of the pictures includes the dead body of a kid who attended the high school and died a few months earlier in a car crash. EMs denies there were any pictures of dead bodies, just pictures of smashed cars. If there were pictures of dead bodies, and if the EMS company was a covered entity (probably was), then disclosure of the pictures would probably be disclosure of PHI. If the body was not identifiable, it probably wouldn't be.
