Texas Statute on use of Social Security Numbers: The most recent Texas legislature passed a law that a business in Texas can't require a customer to provide a social security number unless the business maintains the confidentiality and security of the social security number under a privacy policy that is in place, and provides a copy of the privacy policy to the customer on request. The bill is here.

Hat tip: Kent Smith (the Austin one).
