Interesting HIPAA case here in Dallas: In the manner of the Gibson case, a judge here in Dallas recently refused to throw out a lawsuit against an "alternative" newspaper that published an article revealing the HIV+ status of an individual who didn't want to be identified as such. The facts seem pretty strange: the individual in the lawsuit is a "John Doe," the man's picture and name are on a compact disc by an HIV+ musical group called "Positive Voices," and apparently a church official specifically outed his HIV status to the newspaper. Short article here; more when I hear more.
