E-Prescribing Gets a Shot in the Arm: A consortium of vendors, producers and service providers in the electronic prescription industry has initiated a new project to push e-prescribing. Called CafeRx, their mission is to remove the technical and legal barriers to the growth of electronic prescribing and prescription filling. Obviously, the use of electronic prescribing could speed up prescription filling, streamline the supply process, get drugs where they are needed faster, and reduce errors that can come from pharmacists trying to decipher physician handwriting. Some very big players are involved (Microsoft, for example), but the consortium is pretty much open to any IT companies who want to push the e-prescribing bandwagon forward.
