Defino and Dissent: If you follow me on Twitter these days, you know I'm not too happy with the sorry performance of the vast majority of American media.  I'm not alone: the American public actually trusts Donald Trump to provide honest information about Covid more than they trust the media to honestly report on it. That is shocking, and ultimately very troubling for our democracy.

But even though the media at large is full of "idiots," that doesn't mean there aren't some exceptions that prove the rule. Two of my favorite people in the "media" side of data privacy reporting are Theresa Defino, reporter for Report on Patient Privacy, and the mysterious "Dissent Doe," who can be found moderating and populating the website www.databreaches.net (subtitle: "The Office of Inadequate Security")and posting on Twitter under the handle, @PogoWasRight.

Dissent achieved true HIPAA fame when she was recently named in an OCR settlement agreement -- of course, it was one involving the notorious hacker group The Dark Overlord, so it was a pretty interesting situation all around.

Anyway, Theresa had the opportunity to write up a profile of Dissent, which you can see here.  Although I don't always agree with them, these are two good people in the HIPAA space.
