Kaiser's efforts at electronic medical records:
According to this LA Times story
, healthcare heavyweight Kaiser Permanente is transferring all of its patient records to electronic records. This may be the type of thing that will prove a watershed in the process of moving to electronic records. There are many hurdles to the development of a consistent and uniform electronic medical record, but the best way to get over that hurdle is for some large player, who can force its constituent doctors and hospitals to get in their preferences and live with the committee's decision, to go through the process and put a product out there. There may be tweaks along the way, but the only way to get it started is to get it started. And the best entity to get it started, or to push the starting impetus into motion, is a big player. Stay tuned.
