Should Hollywood Presbyterian have paid the ransom? Some experts
find it troubling; easy for them to say! Running a hospital is a complicated business, with literal life-or-death decisions to be made. I don't think you can be too hard on hospital administration for taking a pretty cheap way to fix a problem that could've killed their patients. Should they have prevented the cyberattack in the first place? I don't know, and neither does anybody else not using 20/20 hindsight. But once the data is locked up, paying $17,000 is probably worth it.
UPDATE: More on the debate
here.
