Connecticut Radiologist Fined $20,000 for Improper PHI Access: Via BNA (subscription required): The hospital terminated the privileges of Dr. Gerald Micalizzi and terminated his PACS access, but he stole another doctor's log-in information, accessed the records of about 1,000 patients, made copies of over 300, and called the patients to offer to provide services to them at another hospital. The fine was levied by the Connecticut Department of Health, not OCR, and the State Medical Examining Board also put him on probation 6 months and required him to get ethics and HIPAA training. The hospital had already notified the patients of the breach.
