New Phoenix Health Systems survey out: I can't say enough about how valuable these surveys are. Phoenix Health Systems has joined up with HIMSS to produce these quarterly "snapshot" surveys outlining the status of HIPAA compliance across the industry. They get great participation, and their results sure do seem to show a consistent picture with the stories I hear from clients and others on the mixed bag of results HIPAA is producing.
The
current survey, Summer 2005, is the first one since all 3 major components of HIPAA (TCS, Privacy and Security) have become enforceable. Some highlights:
- Most payors are Security Rule compliant, but less than half of prividers are.
- While TCS use and compliance between payors and providers has greatly improved, each blames the other for problems in making the HIPAA TCS standards ubiquitous.
- One in 5 providers is not compliant with the Privacy Rule. That is pathetic.
- About one in five providers and one in seven payors have had a privacy complaint filed against them, although not all of those are OCR filings; some are civil suits, and some may just be direct, informal complaints by patients or others.
Very, very interesting. Check it out.
