HIPAA Contingency Plan ending: You know from past postings that CMS agreed to continue to take electronic claims that weren't HIPAA compliant, to give providers a continuing opportunity to get switched over. Well, the good times are about to end. Beginning October 1, CMS will only take HIPAA-compliant electronic claims submissions. This won't affect providers who can still submit on paper, but that's quickly becoming a vanishing breed; all but the smallest providers are required to submit electronically, and they now have to submit electronically in HIPAA format.
