Privacy Statistics: This according to HIPAAwire, although I can't find an official government pronouncement outlining these stats:

12,000 privacy complaints.
65% of complaints closed, often because the offense occurred prior to the effective date of the rule, the perpetrator isn't a covered entity, or HHS lacked jurisdiction.
Top five complaints: (i) improper use/disclosure, (ii) lack of safeguards, (iii) failure to provide an accounting, (iv) violation of the minimum necessary rule, and (v) failure to get an authorization where needed.
Ccomplaint targets line out according to level of patient contact: private physicians got the most complaints, followed by hospitals, pharmacies, outpatient facilities, and group health plans.
